NOTAP committed to driving economic growth, national development, says DG
The National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) has reaffirmed its commitment to harnessing innovation, creativity, and strong intellectual property systems as the new engines of national development and wealth creation.
The Director-General of NOTAP, Obiageli Amadiobi, said this during an interview on Tuesday in Abuja.
Ms Amadiobi explained that in today’s knowledge-driven global economy, nations are defined by the knowledge and creativity of their people.
She added that celebrating indigenous innovators strengthens technology transfer and positions science, technology and innovation (STI) at the forefront of Africa’s sustainable development agenda.
According to her, technology, innovation and science have taken a global dimension in shaping international power equations and influencing investment decisions.
Ms Amadiobi said, “To translate this vision into action, NOTAP has built a nationwide framework to support innovators. The 69 Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Offices (IPTTOs) now operate in universities, polytechnics, and research institutions across Nigeria.
“Programmes such as the NOTAP-Industry Technology Transfer Fellowship (NITTF), the Technology Story Board, and other youth-focused technology hub initiatives are designed to develop, scale, and export Nigerian innovations to the world.
“These innovations can generate revenue and jobs in the process, and an upcoming programme will serve as the year’s flagship platform for translating ideas into market-ready solutions.”
The NOTAP boss announced that the 2026 National Technology and Innovation Summit (NTIS 2.0) would feature direct engagement with inventors, researchers and industry leaders, and it would hold in October.
Ms Amadiobi also called for sustained government commitment through adequate funding.
She said the quality of prototypes already displayed by young Nigerians gives every reason to believe that Nigeria can soon join the ranks of industrialised nations.
“Nigeria cannot make meaningful progress without encouraging inventors to protect their intellectual works and harness them for economic development.
“What is required is sustained support so that researchers and innovators can be encouraged to further develop their inventions,’’ she said.
