Ogun police arrest suspect for impersonating military officer

Operatives attached to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested one Akinola Damilare for allegedly impersonating a military officer.
The command spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said in a statement that operatives nabbed the suspect, popularly known as General Don, in possession of military gear and photographs showing him in army uniform.
“The suspect was arrested at about 2:00 a.m. on 3 November 2026 at Kajola, Elega, Abeokuta, following credible intelligence from a community leader and discreet surveillance by operatives of the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit.
“Items recovered from him include a military face cap, three-quarter military trousers, and four photographs depicting him in military uniform,” Mr Babaseyi said.
Mr Babaseyi said an investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation and determine whether others are connected to the case.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, while reaffirming his command’s resolve to tackle impersonation and other criminal activities, urged residents to report suspicious conduct promptly.
