The Force Intelligence Department-Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force, on Saturday, arrested a member of the House of Assembly, representing Irewole-Isokan Constituency, Abiola Inaolaji Ibrahim, of the ruling Accord Party, in possession of over 100 permanent voter cards.

Confirming the arrest to the Peoples Gazette, the command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the PVCs found with him, allegedly belonged to 143 alleged “mercenaries” discovered to have been camped in the house of his late father, Raji Ibrahim, during the ongoing governorship election.

Mr Abiodun said, “The true situation of the matter is that the House of Assembly member was arrested with about 143 persons suspected to be mercenaries to be used for this electioneering process.

“He was arrested by the FID-IRT, based on intelligence available to them. Some PVCs were found with him. Investigation is still ongoing to identify whether it belongs to them, or they were forged.”

In a viral video showing his arrest while holding the PVCs, Mr Ibrahim, during interrogation by the security operatives, denied hiring or promising them anything.

He, however, admitted that they were staying at the residence, in preparation to vote for Accord Party, whose candidate is the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke.
