Isa Ashiru, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) in Kaduna, says he’ll tackle insecurity in the state in his first year in office, if given the mandate.

Mr Ashiru made the promise on Monday at an interface with Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association (SCKLA) in Kafanchan.

“Insecurity in Kaduna will be over within my first year in office if I am elected governor.

“With sincerity and honesty on the part of those at the helm of affairs, I believe this issue can be resolved,” he added.

He said it was important to secure and unite the state as there can be no development without peace, and promised to be fair in the distribution of projects across the state.

The governorship hopeful added that he would set up a committee to review the mass sack of civil servants by the present administration.

“We will set up a committee to review this issue of civil servants who were dismissed without due process,” Mr Ashiru added.

Speaking earlier, SKCLA Chairman, Emmanuel Kure, said the meeting was convened to allow for candidates who could not attend the initial interface in September.

Mr Kure said the engagements with the governorship candidates would enable the Church to make informed decision on the candidate to support in the forthcoming 2023 elections.

“The essence of the meeting is to hear how they intend to govern Kaduna State as it affects Southern Kaduna.

“This is to enable the congress to educate and guide their congregations as to which direction the Lord will have us follow in the 2023 elections.

“This is an opportunity to meet other candidates who could not make it to the first meeting due to one reason or the other.

“We are here to ask questions that will decide our collective future,” Mr Kure said.

He listed agriculture, education, infrastructure, health, traditional institution, political appointments and security as areas the candidates were expected to highlight.

According to him, the Christian leaders will aggregate the feedback from their members at the end of the meeting and then take a position.

Other candidates who attended the meeting included Hayatudeen Makarfi of the Peoples Redemption Party and Caleb Zagi of the African Democratic Congress.
