Police arrest 14 suspected drug peddlers in Yobe

The Yobe State police command has arrested 14 suspected drug peddlers and recovered more than 300 sachets of tramadol, Vega tablets and other prohibited substances.
The command said the suspects were arrested during an operation targeting criminal hideouts and drug joints at Buduwa market in Jakusko Local Government Area.
In a statement on Saturday, the command’s spokesman, Dungus Abdulkarim, said the raid across the state was through intelligence-led patrols and other proactive policing strategies aimed at preventing crime.
“On 11th July, 2026, at about 1400hrs, the Area Commander, Gashua, led a coordinated operation involving personnel from Bade ‘A’ Division, Bade ‘B’ Division, Area Command Gashua, Garin Alkali Division, Yusufari Division, Jakusko Division, in collaboration with members of the Peace Group Vigilante,” he said.
He said the operation targeted criminal hideouts and drug joints at Buduwa market, Jakusko Local Government Area.
Mr Abdulkarim said the suspects were arrested while engaging in the sale, consumption, and abuse of illicit drugs and other intoxicating substances.
The suspects were identified as Hamisu Umar (20), Usman Wakili (25), Aliyu Mohammed (20), Hassan Ali (35), Dudduwa Dorsha (27), Adamu Hussaini (27), and Sale Adamu (27).
Others include Adamu Umaru (25), Babaru Hassan (28), Dangi Maikudi (22), Hassan Audu (29), Abubakar Usman (29), Ahmadu Waziri (23), and Daudu Yusuf (20).
He further stated that police operatives recovered exhibits from the suspects, including over 300 sachets and packages of various illicit drugs such as Tramadol, Vega tablets, Indian hemp, and other prohibited and controlled substances.
“Investigation is ongoing, and the suspects are assisting the police with useful information to facilitate the arrest of other members of the criminal network,” he said.
He added that the police would charge the suspects in court upon concluding the investigation.
