Vice-President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to supporting traditional rulers as partners in promoting national security, unity and economic development.

Mr Shettima stated this on Thursday when he received the 17th Emir of Gumel, Lawan Sani, during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“Under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government continues to hold traditional rulers in high esteem as the fathers of the nation and vital partners in advancing national security and unity,” he said.

He also reiterated the government’s determination to drive economic development through partnerships with traditional institutions.

Mr Shettima described traditional rulers as parents and mirrors of society, commending the new emir for his commitment to unity and peaceful coexistence. He described Sani as a unique blend of traditional royalty and modern technological expertise, expressing confidence in his ability to drive growth and development across the state.

The vice-president, who noted the emir’s background in technology and experience as a bureaucrat, assured the delegation of his continued personal support for the people of the emirate. He specifically pledged support in healthcare, education and other areas of development.

The emir expressed the Gumel Emirate’s gratitude to the Tinubu administration for its support over the years, particularly following the death of the late Emir, Ahmad Sani II.

Mr Sani said the Gumel Emirate Council would continue to leverage its relationship with the federal government to improve the well-being of the people across various sectors. He also prayed for the re-election of Messrs Tinubu and Shettima in 2027, as well as peace and unity among Nigerians during the 2027 electioneering period.
