The two rival generals, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, were urged to ensure the safety of civilians, bystanders, foreigners and diplomats.
Sudan’s army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has issued a decree lifting a state of emergency that he imposed after seizing control in a military coup on October 25, 2021.
He had succeeded in banning female genital mutilation and helping to get Sudan removed from a United States list of state sponsors of terrorism.
The protests marked the biggest challenge to General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan since he ousted Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on Monday.
