The farm inputs distributed included fertilisers, chemicals, grinders, seedlings, among others.
According to him, Nigeria’s annual demand for maize is about 25 million tons.
The agriculture minister, Abubakar Kyari, said this at a high-level panel discussion at the FAO Hand-in-Hand Sahel Regional Initiative in Rome, Italy.
Mr Kyari said the project produced 7.5 tonnes of seed, including 684 kg of newly introduced legumes such as chickpea and lentil.
Some of the distributed items include power tillers, knapsack sprayers, growth enhancers, rice destoners, cocopeat and buckets.
According to him, the inputs were for the 2024 season, while those for 2025 were being processed.
“This is also part of the federal government’s effort towards addressing the underlying challenges impacting the attainment of national food security goals,” he noted.
According to Mr Kyari, the initiative is aimed at increasing agricultural production.
Mr Iyiola applauded the Renewed Hope Initiative of Mr Tinubu for revamping the policy.
According to him, agriculture contributes about 24 per cent of Nigeria’s GDP.
