He said that third-party deductions have not been paid in most Nigerian universities.
Mr Piwuna stated that Nigeria currently has 339 universities: 72 federal, 108 state, and 159 privately owned.
Mr Piwuna stated, “NEC deliberated extensively on the proposed Tertiary Institutions Support Fund.’’
The university management directed the students to vacate the hostels by August 4.
Mr Karage said the strike became the last resort after prolonged patience and several reminders to the government for necessary action fell on deaf ears.
“Given ASUU’s refusal to reconsider, the Kaduna State government will enforce the ‘no work, no pay’ policy for the duration of the strike,” Mr Bello stated.
Mr Namo said the union, after its National Executive Council (NEC), held between August 17 and August 18, issued a 21-day ultimatum.
Ms Uduk said that ending the victimisation and sacking of union members would help to engender peace in institutions.
The minister said both parties agreed to reconvene on Sept. 6.
ASUU appealed to the public and students to prevail on the government to negotiate with them and resolve the outstanding issues.
