He pointed out that the salary of a professor in a Nigerian university is approximately N500,000, excluding deductions, which reduces it to about N300,000 after deductions are made.
The ASUU FUGUS protest, held peacefully within the university premises, sent a strong message urging the government to respect the 2009 pact or risk industrial action.
Mr Eze said Nigerians should hold the government responsible in case of any nationwide indefinite strike by ASUU, as the government had failed to do the needful.
“The Yelewata tragedy is yet another painful blow to rural communities whose lives and livelihoods have been upended by these unprovoked acts of violence,” said ASUU.
Mr Piwuna stated that nine critical issues remain unresolved, including the stalled renegotiation process since 2017.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Nigeria Nsukka branch, has threatened to sue the Joint Matriculation Board over massive failure recorded in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation
The chairman said the strike was expected to disrupt academic activities in the university.
ASUU alleged that the government had returned to “default settings”, leaving ASUU with no choice but to consider resuming the strike.
The Kaduna State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities suspended its strike on February 18.
The union announced the decision in a statement by its chairman, Peter Adamu and secretary, Peter Waziri, in Kaduna on Tuesday.
