Eyewitnesses said that the truck driver was speeding.
Mr Irelewuyi advised motorists to be civil and consider other road users and cooperate with FRSC officers.
FRSC says three persons died in a multiple accident on Sunday in Oba in Idemili North LGA in Anambra, along Owerri-Oraifite-Onitsha road.
Adeoye Irelewuyi, the commander of the FRSC in Anambra, told journalists in Awka on Saturday that the driver fled the scene after the incident.
The FRSC official said the accident happened when a truck suffering brake failure veered off the road and rammed into pedestrians on the bridge’s walkway.
Mr Irelewuyi said that the probable cause of the accident was speeding and loss of control.
“Anambra state recorded a decrease of 22.22 per cent in incidence of road traffic crashes in the year 2023 compared with 2022.”
“A total of 17 persons, comprising 13 male adults, four female adults were involved in the crash.”
A trailer has killed a commercial motorcyclist at Amaokpala on Umunze-Ekwulobia Road, Anambra.
Mr Irelewuyi said 820 persons were involved in the crashes which 35 claimed 35 lives and 270 persons were injured.
