The session is to be chaired by President Bola Tinubu.
The envoy is expected to consult with Mr Tinubu and other West African leaders on how the United States “can best support regional efforts to return Niger to a democratic path.”
“It is through this spirit of cooperation and collaboration that we will unlock the untapped potential of our continent,” said Mr Obasanjo.
The AU urged all political, civil and military actors in the two countries to give priority to peaceful political avenues.
He said that women and children were mostly killed when Israeli Air Force jets allegedly struck the Baptist Hospital in Gaza.
The military junta said that it will take its time to conduct elections to avoid repeating mistakes of the past.
“I’m asking it (military) to restore republican and constitutional order,” said Mr Ossa.
Mr Tinubu would consult with other heads of state and government in the African Union on the Gabon crisis to determine the way forward.
“ AU’s Peace & Security Council meets to receive an update on the evolution of the situation in Niger and the efforts to address it.”
The union’s chairman, Moussa Faki Mahamat, in a statement, said he stands behind the group’s response to the coup in Niger.
