Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Tuesday granted pardon to 113 inmates at the state correctional centre in commemoration of Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary
The governor revealed that the state government had spent N14.4 billion to procure 280 trucks of rice for onward sale to the public.
He added that the government had provided 140 operational vehicles to support the security agencies in the state.
He also urged local residents to keep their drains clear and avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
“Governor Ahmed is sustaining the negative tempo by spending an outrageous billions on the wire fencing of streets in Sokoto Metropolis,” said the party.
He noted that the contribution would significantly complement efforts in ensuring food security in the state.
“This trend of the authorities’ never-ending harassment of activists for their social media posts must end,” Amnesty International said.
Mr Keyamo urged intending pilgrims for the 2024 hajj to be law-abiding citizens.
Mr Ahmed said the programme was designed to address maternal mortality issues.
