Mr Adewale said two members of the vigilante group were injured in the attack on September 15.
“We had offences that relate to drug peddling, to crime, and those that have to do with illegal begging,” said the police.
She said the suspects, including two daughters of the victim, conspired to fake the abduction in the Jikwoyi area of Abuja to demand ransom.
Mr Adewale said seven kidnapping cases were reported, with 17 suspects arrested and three neutralised.
Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, praised the operatives for their bravery.
The CP reiterated that security was an enormous task.
A couple was among the suspects.
The FCT police spokesperson said that members of the group were armed with firearms, cutlasses, catapults, sticks, stones, petrol bombs, and other lethal weapons.
