Governor Bassey Otu has suspended logging activities in Cross River, directing security agencies to arrest any offenders.
According to him, the appointment of the new chairman is for a period of two years, effective from June 21.
“He wishes them the best in their roles as traditional rulers in their respective domains,” the statement said.
The workers, however, attributed the reasons for the walkout to insincerity on the part of the government regarding the scheme.
Mr Otu disclosed this on Friday in Calabar during a media parley in commemoration of his first 100 days in office.
“The public is therefore advised in their own interest to adhere strictly to these directives,” he added.
