According to WHO data, 7.7 million people worldwide died from bacterial infections in 2021, with 1.1 million of these deaths directly attributable to antibiotic resistance.
Medical experts have warned Nigerians about the dangers of self-medication and misuse of antibiotics in the human body.
Ms Adeyeye said the exercise aims to eradicate fake drugs and other spurious NAFDAC-regulated products from circulation in Nigeria.
“Every drug taken can be a source of disorder. Drugs can affect the kidney and the liver and should be taken only on physicians’ prescription,” one of the doctors warned.

The NAFDAC boss said the products were sub-standard and falsified medical products, unwholesome processed food additives, and unsafe cosmetics and counterfeits.
The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) has called for a global response to the risk posed by Antimicrobial resistance to public health.
Mr Iyiola said it was essential to sensitise farmers and consumers on the adverse effects of antibiotics on poultry and human beings.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Thursday reported an exponential rise in cholera cases in Africa amid a global surge in the disease.
“Indiscriminate use can also cause resistance in the use of antibiotics,’’ the veterinarian cautioned.
