Mr Aiyedatiwa, the APC candidate, was declared the poll winner on Sunday after he beat his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the PDP.
Mr Akeredolu’s death “was preceded by events that tested us in diverse ways, but those challenges have shaped our resolve,” said the Ondo governor.
He also declared that all the flags in the state should be flown at half-mast.
He sought prayers for the governor, who had been absent from the state for over five months and was battling health challenges.
The Society for Women Empowerment (SWE) is accusing the deputy governor of physically abusing his wife, even in the presence of his staff and friends.
