Police spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye, said a cache of arms and ammunition belonging to the proscribed group was recovered.
“The suspects will be made to face the full wrath of the law, when arrested,’’ Mr Okoye assured.
“The suspects will be arraigned in court upon completion of a comprehensive investigation,” said the police.
“On arrival, the gunmen opened fire at the direction of the policemen and killed two on the spot.”
The source said the assailants also set ablaze two security trucks conveying the joint security team with the bodies.
“Most of the suspects have been arraigned and remanded in the custodial Centre, Owerri, while others are still undergoing trial,” he added.
He said the suspects were reported at Ihiagwa Police Divisional Headquarters, Owerri.
He said that the remains of the electrocuted man had been evacuated to a morgue.
The police command in Imo says it foiled an attack on the chairman of the Council of Imo Traditional Rulers, Eze Emmanuel Okeke, at his Amaifeke palace in Orlu.
The commissioner of police, Mohammed Barde, confirmed the incident, describing it as gruesome.
