“Though this judicial decision may be disheartening, we shall continue to strive for a just, fair and truly democratic Nigeria,” said Mr Achonu.
The panel also held that the appellants failed to prove that the governor submitted a forged certificate.
The tribunal dismissed the petition of the Labour Party (LP) and its governorship candidate, Athan Achonu.
While Mr Asemota represented the Lamidi Apapa faction, Mr Edun appeared for the Julius Abure-led faction of LP.
“What gladdens me about the victory of the APC in both Kogi and Imo states is that Nigerians are appreciative of good governance.”
The candidate alleged that voting in many locations was done without BVAS accreditation.
The opposition candidate said that agents of his party returned with disturbing reports of hijacking of ballot boxes and other electoral materials as well as vote buying.
The electoral office promises efficient transmission infrastructure, but scepticism lingers over its failure to rely on results uploaded to its servers during the general election.
The case was adjourned until Friday.
