Mr Cardoso said the apex bank would be conducting spot checks across the DMBs and would impose sanctions on underperforming banks.

The immediate past CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, had, in a bid to further promote the cashless policy in the country, implemented the cash deposits limit.
Some Deposit Money Bank officials also claimed that the DMBs were not getting an adequate supply of cash from the CBN.
This follows the Supreme Court ruling on return of old currency notes as legal tender.
The CBN had on Thursday directed all commercial banks to open for operations on Saturdays and Sundays to ease the naira scarcity.
The State Fire Service attributed the incident to electric spark from the ATM machines.
They told journalists in separate interviews that spending the two old notes had been challenging as Nigerians, and even banks were not accepting the money for their daily transactions.
The commander described the policy as a positive step, adding that it has mitigated terrorists’ activities since its inception.
