The Agenda 2063 is the AU’s 50-year strategic framework for transforming Africa into a global powerhouse.
Mr Adeoye said the situation in Sudan is “the worst humanitarian crisis globally” and that the conflict, which began in April 2023, remains “virtually unreported.”
The MoU will be jointly implemented by the AU Counterterrorism Centre and Nigeria’s NCTC.
According to him, many regions in Africa were marred by conflicts and insecurity.
He noted that the AU had also secured sustainable financing for peace operations through the AU Consensus Paper on Predictable Financing.
“Silencing the Guns remains on our agenda,” he said, also stressing the importance of “zero-tolerance” for all unconstitutional changes of government.
ECOWAS has held a strategic peace talk with the AU to integrate and implement the African Union Accountability and Compliance Framework into peacekeeping missions.
The UN launched an initiative called ‘A pen for a gun’ to showcase the programme’ role in promoting social cohesion and peace in Africa.
