UN Women has called for more female participation in politics and governance across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Ms Shettima said Nigerian women had faced numerous challenges yet were relentless in achieving their dreams.
Nigeria has made commitments to ensure gender equality and fight GBV.
“The policy will also protect women’s human rights and mitigate sexual and gender-based violence through appropriate buffers and related services.”
“We call on the President to make this a reality,” she said.
Ms Tallen said from the president’s past records, she was optimistic that Nigerian women would be given their pride of place.
“Some women have also often withdrawn from public life, citing abuse, including online abuse and cyberbullying.
The UN Women showcased various technological innovations by young women and men that advanced gender equality and women’s empowerment in Nigeria.
Inspector general of police Usman Alkali Baba, represented by AIG Aisha Abubakar, said special personnel training was ongoing.
“We must also pool resources to protect women and girls in humanitarian settings, including those affected by the recent catastrophic flooding.”
