“The position of the government and the CBN will be made known upon the determination of the suit coming up tomorrow (today),” said the Presidency.
The Kano governor threatened to revoke the licenses of businesses in the state that refuse to accept the old notes.
According to the statement, the governor was upset by the long queues at ATMs amid acute scarcity and hopelessness in Zamfara.
The CBN has refused to heed the Supreme Court ruling.
Mr Tinubu said he would support CBN’s cashless policy but not the hurting Nigerians.
“The elections, if well conducted, can be a turning point in our political and economic history.”
The command said it understood the plight of the masses and was hopeful that the new measures introduced by the CBN would improve the circulation of the currency in the coming days.
The Council of State had of Friday advised the CBN to allow the new and old naira notes to co-circulate to ease the pains and sufferings of Nigerians.
Investigation showed that many residents still possessing the old naira notes find it challenging to spend them.
The governor noted that the old currency notes remained legal tender until the final verdict of the Supreme Court on the matter.
