“In Borno, we have not recorded any confirmed cases of cholera,” the health director said.
The commissioner alleged that the NCDC relied on old data to include the state among the affected states.
He said the ministry would continue to support states through advocacy and coordination, urging the states to take responsibility for cholera preparedness and response plans.
A total of 197 cases of cholera have been confirmed in South Africa with 43 deaths.
The ministry said all the country’s 10 provinces were affected, but there was no epidemiological link to each other.
Earlier, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control had pegged the figure at 111,062 cases, with 3,604 deaths; exceeding the number of cases and deaths registered in 2020.
