Mr Carney ranked second place in a poll conducted by the Angus Reid Institute on Friday of the most likely candidate to replace Mr Trudeau as Liberal Party’s leader.
Mr Trudeau said he intends to remain in his role until his successor is chosen, urging Canadians to unite behind the new leader.
Mr Trump slammed Ms Freeland, saying her behaviour was toxic and not conducive to making good deals for Canada’s “very unhappy citizens.”
