Cyril Mathew has assumed duty as the 34th zonal commanding officer of the zone 5 headquarters, Benin, of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The FRSC commander explained that three victims trapped in their vehicles died instantly, while another died later at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
He said the crash involved four vehicles, including two tankers carrying diesel and petroleum products.
He said FRSC authorities were able to identify the deceased through the vehicle’s manifest and had since contacted their families.

The FRSC official said the accident occurred on Thursday when a bus from Lagos to Port Harcourt veered off the highway and plunged into the river.
