AFRICOM’s spokeswoman, Rebecca Heyse, said the joint counter-terrorism operations conducted by Nigerian and U.S. forces significantly weakened ISIS activities in the region.
He said the troops neutralised 18 terrorists, arrested 13 suspects and rescued 53 kidnapped hostages during the week.
Eighty-five civilians were on December 3, 2023, mistakenly killed in military drone attacks in Tudun Biri, Igabi LGA.
“Our security situation is self-inflicted. The military recognise that there is still a challenging and tough war campaign ahead,” the DHQ stated.
At least 36 military officers were reportedly killed in an ambush in Niger by a yet-to-be-identified terrorist group that shot down a Nigerian Air Force surveillance helicopter.
The Defence Headquarters said the Nigerian troops killed 11 terrorists on Saturday in Kaduna.
