A relation of the lecturer revealed that the kidnappers had contacted the family, demanding N50 million ransom.
The police spokesman said the suspects had allegedly confessed to being members of a secret cult, the Black Axe Confraternity, during a police investigation.
“The DPO mobilised his men and rushed to the village, but the gunmen had left with the victims. Our men are now combing the bushes in pursuit of the criminals.”
“The gunmen ambushed the IPMAN chairman with two vehicles without number plate and fired at his jeep, killing his driver,” said the witness.
The police said one of the bandits was shot dead on the spot, another with bullet wounds died later, and four others escaped.
Two unregistered motorcycles, one big Elema generator and a Nissan Primera with Reg No. BEN 564 LT was recovered from the suspect.

Police spokesperson said an investigation into the incident was ongoing and the suspects would be charged to court.
