The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it arrested 1,345 suspects and seized 8,430.239kg of illicit substances in 2024.
According to the NDLEA boss, most drug users are ashamed to visit psychiatric centres.
“It will be wrong if we just sit and watch our youths being destroyed by illicit drugs.’’
The agency said urgent action is required to prevent further harm to individuals struggling with addiction and to safeguard public health.
The Taliban-led caretaker government issued a decree in April last year banning poppy cultivation and its processing.
