Mr Ogboo said his son was arrested alongside his 16-year-old colleague, Chima Ossai.
Police said the mobile and ATM card of the deceased were recovered from the suspects.
He said no arrest had been made.
He added that the breakthrough followed weeks of intensive police surveillance of the syndicate.
Police commissioner Aderemi Adeoye has cautioned Anambra residents against jungle justice.
A similar attack was carried out at the Nnewi South Local Government Council headquarters on March 31.
The arsonists were said to have numbered more than 50.
Police spokesman, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, said on Tuesday that no fewer than 24 suspects are cooling their feet with interrogators.
The suspects were arrested following Wednesday’s shoot-out at Tempsite, Okpuno, Awka.
