A witness, Oku Chinagorom, told journalists that the inferno was triggered by a cooking gas explosion in one of the shops at the busy junction in the area.
The police spokesperson described the incident as “very unfortunate.”
“It destroyed property in some sections of the building.’’
Mr Ibiam explained that from an empty plot of land, the fire spread to the bush bar structure made with thatched roof.
The Ebonyi Fire Service says it recorded two deaths and 69 fire incidents in 2023.
Mr Ibiam said that some of the fire incidents that occurred within the period under review were caused by electricity faults.
