Nigeria and the European Union have agreed to deepen defence collaboration to address Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
The leaders also resolved to curb terrorism and other forms of insecurity threatening the region.
The EBC is an independent ECOWAS platform designed to empower the private sector, boost sub-regional trade, foster investment, and drive economic integration.
ECOWAS announced that the policy was adopted in December 2024 but finalised modalities for its implementation for January 2026.
Mr Shettima also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening the strong partnership between both nations.
The Olubadan said that following the removal of the fuel subsidy, there was no longer a reason for the continued closure of the remaining land borders.

Mr Obi said, “ECOWAS was quick to sanction Guinea-Bissau, but what does ECOWAS do when democracy is subverted,not by soldiers, but by technology?”
Mr Jonathan stated, “What happened in Guinea-Bissau, I wouldn’t call it a coup. It was not a coup.”
Mr Tinubu insisted that a comprehensive reform of the global governance system is long overdue.
