The new president will take over from Emmanuel Osodeke, a professor of Agriculture at the University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia, who has served since 2021.
The minister said both parties agreed to reconvene on Sept. 6.
ASUU had threatened to embark on strike over the non-implementation of agreements reached with the federal government.
Mr Osodeke said that NEC resolved to reconvene after two weeks.
“We told them we should negotiate our wage, but they said we are giving you an award of N35,000; we have told them that it is not our own,” said the ASUU chairman.
“The budget proposed, which was 8.8 per cent, still fell short of the global education agency’s recommended 26 per cent expenditure on the sector.”
The food donations worth over N50 million is for IDPs in the northwest states of Kaduna, Sokoto, Kano, Kebbi and Zamfara.
In July, Mr Osodeke advised that the way out of the issues created by the hike in tuition fees is to adopt a holistic approach and enact people-centred policies.
“We hope the current administration will review the whole situation and find a safe landing for these our future leaders.”
ASUU has urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritise providing basic amenities nationwide.
