Adding that Nigerians deserve a police force that they can trust, the speaker outlined the need to prioritise recruitment, training and operational priorities.
“It is imperative that we maintain solidarity with peaceful protesters in Nigeria demanding justice and meaningful security reform.”
The defendants are being charged with riot, disobedience to lawful order issued by the constituted authority and attempted arson.
The panel’s chairman noted that some petitions were abandoned.
Mr. Akiolu’s comment, however, could make him a subject of interest to the nation’s anti-graft agency.
The governor said that the summit, which was the first in the country, was at President Muhammadu Buhari’s instance to address the youths’ agitations on the EndSARS protests of 2020.
Panel chairperson Doris Okuwobi said at a session: “We cannot force them to come. We will take on the petitions as if they are not present.
“Mistakes have been made in the past. But I think it is not too late to correct them.”
