Some football enthusiasts in Aba have called on the NFF and Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, to arrange more high-profile international friendlies for the national team.
Festus Ojo, an Ogun-based supporter, expressed delight in local parlance, saying, “Na we get the cup.”
Chelle said this ahead of the West African nation’s last Group C match against Uganda in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday.
Nigeria will take on Gabon in the first semi-final of the mini tournament on November 13 at Complexe Sportif Prince Heritier Moulay Al Hassan in Rabat.
The CHAN tournament will be hosted in August by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Mr Obasi said that he was shocked at the announcement and would have preferred an indigenous coach.
Chelle’s immediate task would be to ensure Nigeria qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
