Katsina, ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state, has often been ravaged by bandits, forcing many inhabitants to flee their homes.
Doris Nsa, a civil servant, lauded the decision by the Tinubu administration to carry out the recommendations of the Oronsaye report.
“President Buhari assumed office at a very difficult period of our national life when the economy was spiralling into recession…,” said Mr Tinubu.
He went ahead to say that the Buhari government was run by “a set of political morons.”
“We wish to state categorically that the register was developed and compiled using transparent and participatory processes.”
That Mr Tinubu is not relying on Mr Buhari’s poverty register to continue giving out cash suggests he does not believe the beneficiaries were genuine.
Mr Buhari’s regime was rocked by several corruption scandals, ranging from certificate forgery among his aides to theft and diversion of public funds.
“I believe that as Nigerians if they are called upon by the government, the major cause of this problem (banditry) is poverty and ignorance.”
Mr Onanuga’s lamentation comes a few days after Mr Tinubu said he should not be pitied for he is aware of the issues confronting the country before vying to be President.
