The strategies would include flood-tolerant rice varieties and other climate-smart agric technologies that would mitigate the effect of the flood on farmers.
The farmers in 2007 initiated legal proceedings in Hague, for oil pollution in Goi, Oruma and Ikot Ada Udo in Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom States respectively.
One of the farmers, Hussaini Malleri, said he had been cultivating his farmland for the past 25 years, adding that hippos attacks were a source of concern to the farmers.
The report indicated that violence erupted on November 30 over the alleged encroachment of farmlands and murder of a farmer by unidentified assailants in the area.
According to Mr Dahiru, the state government has enrolled at least 100,000 vulnerable persons in the scheme.
The commissioner advised farmers who planted cash crops within the affected areas and fishermen to suspend every activity within the vicinity.
“As of February, N948 billion in loans has been given to 4.4 million farmers cultivating 5.2 million hectares, creating 12.5 million direct jobs.”
A survey of markets across the region showed that prices of the commodity had shot up by over 100 per cent in the last year.
Some farmers in the South-East have decried the high cost of fertilisers, noting that they have resorted to other sources of manure for their crops.
The farmers are also asking for training and retraining on flood prevention and control measures.
