The comptroller added that the ultimate goal was to improve the bridge and provide better service to the public.
On Thursday, the controller announced a 24-hour closure of the bridge to allow for repairs of some critical portions.
The contractors would return to site on January 9, and complete work between Kara and Long Bridge within 20 days.

The road section between Arepo and Warewa will be diverted to allow laying of asphalt on the under-construction highway.
The diversion on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway would begin on Wednesday July 28 and end on Friday 30 July.
Mr. Popoola had in a statement on Friday night announced a plan to partially close the Falomo Bridge for a six weeks rehabilitation work.
The bridge will be shut starting from Sunday 14th March 2021.
