The commission urged Nigerians to stop linking it with MC Oluomo, saying its commitment was to the individual drivers.
Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen attacked INEC’s office in Ojoto at Idemili South LGA of Anambra in the wee hours of Wednesday.
“This is the second time the Commission is extending PVC collection nationwide and this will be the last extension of the exercise,” INEC said.
The voters, especially new registrants, thronged designated INEC offices on Tuesday and in the early hours of Wednesday in large numbers.
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu said the directive followed the “low rate” of collection of PVCs in the South-West.
INEC says gunmen have attacked its office in Enugu South local council 39 days before the February and March elections.
The residents, who spoke in separate interviews on Friday, described the extension as a “welcome development”.
The deadline for PVC collection was earlier scheduled for January 22, before now being extended to January 29.
“All the candidates that their names have been submitted will remain candidates until elections are over,” Mr Okoye explained to The Gazette.
Mr Okoye urged officials of the commission to show Nigerians that they have the capacity to do so.
