A District Court in Finland has sentenced a leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Simon Ekpa, to six years in prison for terrorism.
“We want Nigeria to realise its potential as a democratic digital powerhouse,” said the diplomats
There is growing evidence, however, that the act is being misused by some to silence criticism and dissent.
Mr Tinubu also commended the Finnish government for arresting and trying Mr Ekpa.
“We have been through turbulent times, and we don’t want to promote terrorism,” Mr Tinubu told the Finnish ambassador.
Sanna Selin, the new Finnish ambassador to Nigeria, says Nigeria and Finland have a brighter future through bilateral relations.
President Bola Tinubu’s government has hailed the arrest and prosecution of IPOB leader Simon Ekpa in Finland on Thursday.
“CDS is happy with his arrest in Finland, with the hope this will be a step towards his extradition to Nigeria so that he will face justice,” he said.
A presidential spokesman said President Bola Tinubu has not been briefed about the development.
The vice-president emphasised that Nigeria would leave no stone unturned in the quest to stabilise Africa.
