The controller said that apart from containing the disasters, the command also saved lives and property worth several billion naira.
He noted that recurring fire outbreaks in major commercial centres had become a growing threat to businesses.
“Many are not aware of the danger of fire, that is why they play with objects that could trigger explosion.”
He said the fire service would enforce no-sleeping regulations within markets and also advocate the provision of alternative accommodations for traders.
Mr Amodu said preparation for the harmattan was already ongoing, as the service knew that the period was usually characterised by fire outbreaks.
The fire incidents were said to have been linked to electrical equipment and high voltage as well as illegal storage of petroleum products.
Eight persons lost their lives, while property worth N31.8 million were destroyed by fire during the period under review.
The warning came after three filling stations around Abuja were razed within the last two weeks.
“Property worth N500 million was saved from destruction within the period while those worth N137 million were destroyed.”
“In the year under review from the 27 fire stations across the state, we rescued 25 of the 150 people that fell, trapped in open water well.”
