Cannabis remained the most consumed drug, with 244 million users, followed by opioids, amphetamines, cocaine and ecstasy, according to a report.
In a statement on Monday, UN Women said 1140 women and girls died daily in the hands of their partners or close relatives.
She said that governments and other stakeholders must be equipped with data and evidence to inform responses and galvanise action.
The UN secretary-general has advocated ending the stigma and discrimination around those who use drugs and the expansion of prevention and treatment programmes.
The highest murders of women and girls, around 20,000, took place in Africa, followed by Asia.
The President also expressed Nigeria’s commitment towards ensuring a world not threatened by illicit drug abuse and trafficking.
