According to him, Ms Oderinde is expected to commence her eight-hour per day community service from Ahmadiyya to Salolo route for the next 18 days, cleaning the environment.
“The truth is Nigeria, by 2025, will be the largest producer of plastic waste. We need to step up our activities in recycling and circular economy.”
Mr Odumboni said the government was committed to providing the necessary support for the sweepers to carry out their roles efficiently.
Mr Oriyomi called on the government to invest in sanitary engineered landfills, waste-to-compost, and waste-to-energy to save the environment.
The agency also decried the act of using waste to reclaim lands for future uses as illegal.
Mr Odumboni called on residents to join the fight against plastic pollution by bagging and containerising their wastes.
The state’s waste management chief says the state’s recycling industry recorded about N18 billion in 2021.
Citing reckless general poor hygiene and the refusal to pay for waste services, the agency said the closure would be till further notice.
Over 100 pupils from different schools in Lagos State were trained on effective waste management and good environmental practices during the month-long academy.
“For people out there, who continue to migrate and dump waste indiscriminately, any time you are caught, you would be held responsible and would face the wrath of the law.”
