Mr Okowa polled 113,309 votes in the exercise.
Mr Okowa cautioned against internal rivalry and divisive tendencies.
In April, Mr Okowa, his successor Sheriff Oborevwori, and Delta State lawmakers defected to the ruling APC.
“The defections you see in Delta are bound to happen in other states,” said Mr Suswam.
Mr Okowa noted “I now believe I should have gone with the will of my people.”
Mr El-Rufai said the people determine election outcomes not the governors or the president.
The commissioner said remaining in the PDP due to the challenges would not advance the development of Delta and its people.

Mr Shaibu, a one-time House of Representatives member, said what was happening to the PDP was not about the party but the players.
