The Ijaw National Congress, an apex socio-cultural organisation of the Ijaw nation worldwide, says its rescheduled national elections will be held on April 13.
Following the election committee’s decision, some aggrieved INC members sought redress in court.
NASRDA, in collaboration with Grassroots Bridge Builders, has restated the need for harnessing youth potential through skill acquisition for national growth.
“This decision pours petrol on the flames of voter apathy. It tells the young, the hopeful, the reform-minded that the system is not serious about changing…,” said Mr Okaba.
Mr Okaba stated, “Our people are subjected to human rights abuses, all to protect oil assets while denying us the benefits from them.’’
The congress urged other leaders to emulate Mr Dickson’s example of principled leadership and courage in the face of adversity.
“Given his eight-year tenure as governor of Rivers, we expected a more informed understanding of the state’s history,” the INC said.
The Rivers Restoration Movement has demanded the arrest of prominent Ijaw leaders over alleged threats to disrupt oil production.
The CP said it was unfortunate that politicians tend to create security breaches during elections to achieve their goals.
‘’So again we appeal to Mr President to call the FCT minister to order as a stitch in time, they say, saves nine,’’ INC president said.
