Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo state have arrested 12 suspects for illegal oil bunkering, illegal mining, stealing, and vandalism
Mr Abbas added that the investigation was to provide enough guidance on curbing the menace of illegal mining.
“Council also reaffirmed the ban on illegal mining”.
Mr Maku said the suspects were arrested at Igbariam area of Anambra State.
The governor said this in a statement on Tuesday by his chief press secretary, Gil Nsa.
Mr Oyewale said the suspects would soon be arraigned in court.
Two Chinese citizens and a Nigerian have been arrested for illegal mining.
The House majority leader, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, said miners should also register with the state government.
“Illegal mining is not exclusive to the high class alone, but cuts across the strata of our society.”
According to him, illegal mining deprives the government of royalties and taxes and also contributes to insecurity and environmental degradation.
