Voting in the ongoing governorship election has commenced after about three hours delay in Okpoama ward, Brass local council in Bayelsa.
“The electorate should be rest assured of adequate security during the election,” he said.
He also said the commission was ready to address challenges that might arise from the distribution process.
Mr Sokari-Pedro gave the warning when he addressed election stakeholders and senior police officers deployed for the polls.
“This is a national assignment, and I expect you to be professional, civil, and polite but firm in the discharge of your duties and responsibilities.”
The police escort attached to the INEC team was said to have engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel.
Salisu Ibrahim, one of the bus drivers, who was shot in his right leg, and recuperating at the hospital, said the attackers took them by surprise.
Mr Paul Odama vowed that any one arrested for a crime, be it electoral or otherwise, would be made to feel the weight of the law.
“Anybody that wants to disrupt the system should be ready to die, and anybody that wants to die should come out and disrupt the system.”
