The convict earlier pleaded guilty to theft.
The Jos Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, sentenced a 43-year-old welder, Solomon John, to three months’ imprisonment for stealing a car battery.
The magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the defendant after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
The judge gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine.
The prosecutor said the convict was caught while trying to sell the stolen item.
The prosecutor said the convict hit the complainant on the head.
During a police investigation, the steel rod was found in the convict’s possession.
Mr Bokkos gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine.
The convict pleaded guilty to trespass and theft.
The prosecutor said the offence is punishable under the provisions of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
