Ebunoluwa Ojelabi reportedly died on Monday.
Mr Idimogu described Mrs Meranda’s appointment as a round peg in a round hole.
“We are aware of hunger, but we cannot let our country go on fire. I want to appeal to the youths to take it easy,” Mr Idimogu added.
“We want the opposition to allow our president, who God gave to us, to breathe. Please allow him to breathe for the sake of the masses,” Mr Idimogu said.
The OPI president, Ginika Tor, made the call at the Igbo Kwenu Day to celebrate the victory of Mr Tinubu and his vice, Kashim Shettima, on Sunday in Abuja.
Mr Idimogu said any politician who finds it difficult to accept defeat is not fit to lead the country.
His greatest challenger, Oladipo Ajomale, pulled 30 votes from the 30 party delegates to emerge winner of the exercise.
“Let there be calm. If I’m IPOB leader, I will use the opportunity I am having to strategise for my people, hold the government of the eastern zone accountable.”
The crowd had gathered around the residence of the lawmaker as early as 5:00 a.m.
