“It is important that any engagement with this committee is done with the depth, accuracy and clarity it rightfully deserves,” said Mr Ibas.
The proposed alteration is intended to attract foreign investors willing to invest in the Nigerian economy above a specified threshold or in critical sectors.
He said the entirety of the National Assembly moved quickly and passed the bill in one day out of excitement.
“Is this bill important at this particular time in our national lives? What value will it add to us as a nation?” a legislator asked.
He said the review of the constitution was imperative due to the changing nature of the nation’s population.
“We have approved the employment of security men in all our schools. We do not want to be reactive on the issue of security in our schools.”
“It is a direct recipe for crisis in our state. We caution against future action in this guise.”
The committee says Nigerian schools need a three-month moratorium to allow the pandemic subside.
